geovalin
More than 250,000 tourists have visited popular destinations across the country over the last two weeks, an increase of almost 50 percent compared the previous fortnight in late April, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, said that from May 4 – 17, the number of tourists significantly increased – with most choosing to visit “eco-tourism” sites in Sihanoukville, Kep, and Kampot in particular. With more than 40 percent of those being Cambodian residents there are now plans to further expand the current domestic tourism movement, he added. read more https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50726122/tourism-reports-50-percent-increase-in-two-weeks/

phantomfiddler
Alas Thailand could not be doing a better job of shooting itself in the foot. What tourists there are will flock to neighboring countries, and I hear the indians spend 10,000 bht (or equivalent) per day ???? My heart bleeds for Thailand AND Cambodia !
Popular Post spidermike007
And what about Thailand? They have not even announced an official date for opening of international tourism yet, have they? I keep hearing July 1st. Tourism is not returning to Thailand anytime soon. If you think about it, the group that comprised perhaps 60% of all arrivals (lower to middle income Chinese and Indians) are the ones who have been hardest hit by this idiotic worldwide economic shutdown. Tourism in Thailand will never recover to even close to it's former levels, and that leaves millions out of work. Will most countries still be required to have Covid free letters, as the virus is still raging in many countries. And some countries will not issue that letter (impossible to get in the US). Plus, will the mandatory health insurance still be required? Will it be even stricter than before? Will the restrictions be based on the number of cases in your home country? No doubt the Americans will be the most radioactive people worldwide, for the next year or two, with regard to travel. And Russians, Brazilians, Italians, Spanish, British, etc, etc. And just what are people returning to? How about the nightlife here? Will there be any? What percent of bars and clubs will not be able to re-open at all? There are so many unanswered questions, it boggles the mind. One thing is for certain. Thailand will be feeling the effects of this for a very, very long time. So will the rest of the world.
Caldera
Tourism crashed by 95% or so. Even a 50% increase is hardly a drop in the bucket!
