Master plan to develop huge Sihanoukville beach

Featured Replies

Preah Sihanouk provincial authority is to establish a master plan to develop the beach in the province, especially the new stretch of bays from Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to a new area called “Chumteav Mao or Madam Mao Beach”, according to a senior tourism official of Sihanouk province.

Taing Sochet Krisna, Preah Sihanouk provincial tourism director, said most of the bays in the city are jam which present challenges to further development. However, the new beach, “Madam Mao Beach” is big. Thus, the province can develop it. However, Krisna could not give details on what projects will be built on it.

“We are studying the infrastructure such as roads, rest rooms, parking, parks and volley ball courts on the beach among other facilities. Once we finish the study, we will send the plan to the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Council, and the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of the Cambodian coastal area (NCDD) to approve,” Krisna added.

We are most unfortunate in these recent times, having witnessed many fantastic places being destroyed by progress (Sihanoukville, Maya Bay, Boracay, to name just a few) and also to have witnessed thousands of beaches polluted beyond toleration by plastic waste. All in a relative click of the world time clock ! Worse is to come, and if history repeats itself this trend will only accelerate due to lack of caring in an expanding population. Global warming is not what is going to get us, it is indifference as we watch garbage trucks empty their contents into Indian rivers, hordes of people elsewhere desecrating holiday venues with no thought for the environment, and the complete failure to realize that we must clean up our mess ????

*most of the bays in the city are jam*  what does this mean please ? Also, I haven’t been back there since the Chinese arrived, but what happened to the beaches in town, Ocheatal etc , and the pretty nice one over the hill ? Such a shame, it all could have been developed nicely.

Only been there once in October 2016, Otres beaches 1 and 2. There were rumours of Chinese hotels and casinos being built, but I haven't been back since. It was a chilled out place, beach bars and loads of hippy chic backpackers with Mac books.

Nearly the entire nation has sold out to the Chinese. PP is barely recognizable anymore. Hun Sen could not resist the additional billions in personal fortune. He sold out his people to Pol Pot. Then he has been selling out during his entire reign of thievery and serial killing. Now he does it once again. As always, the people factor last.

Beach bars are gone, the roads are ruined by the huge construction trucks, traffic is horrible. Of course I was there before the covid, now I guess it is pretty empty. But I imagine the roadsides are still full of garbage and stink.

Sounds delightful, the roads were horrible when I was there, got orange coloured mud all over a new pair of blue Vans.

At least Shihanoukville has a masterplan and real estate prices went up in recent years. While Pattaya went further down hill

Sadly though, their last master plan was to allow the Chinese to virtually take over, build loads of casinos and ruin the place.

What could possibly go wrong?

What sexy name that is ' Madam Mao Beach' !
