22 Chinese men arrested over illegal online gambling racket

Featured Replies

Mondulkiri provincial police on Saturday arrested 20 Chinese men and two women for allegedly entering the country illegally and also operating an illegal online gambling racket in the province.

Major General Lor Sokha, provincial police chief, said yesterday the group was arrested at around 8.30am after police, led by a deputy prosecutor of the provincial court Eang Sokun, raided Mondulkiri Hotel in Sen Monorom city’s Spean Meanchey commune.

He said police were alerted to the foreigners’ operations by a man who stayed in the hotel and became suspicious of their activities on Friday.

“These Chinese people came to stay in Cambodia without proper documents and attempted to operate an illegal online gambling racket,” Maj Gen Sokha said. “They were arrested after our forces raided the hotel rooms on Saturday.” He said that after the raid, police seized 135 smartphones, 40 desktops computers, five Wifi installation machines, 128 Sim cards, cables and other related items from the rooms.
