webfact
Phang Nga resort owner slams government's financial assistance package as unworkable Picture: Facebook The owner of a resort in Phang Nga in the south of Thailand has slammed the government's financial rescue packages for businesses as unworkable. "Khun Don Taweemuang" went on Facebook to explain his rags to near riches dream that has been decimated by the pandemic. Born with barely enough to eat he managed to get a job in Phuket and later was lucky to be able to rent a small resort of thirty rooms on Koh Yao Yai called Koh Yao Heaven Beach resort. Things went well and advance bookings at the end of 2019 were very promising and 2020 looked like being a bumper year. Then the pandemic hit and his dreams were left in tatters as everyone cancelled. He said that the government help packages for operators looked good on paper but when the criteria for assistance from financial institutions was examined in detail it was inconsistent with the needs of operators. Thus he is forced to make the best of the situation on his own, using what savings he has to stay afloat. In a post on Facebook reported by Sanook he appealed to people to come and visit his resort saying it may not be as fancy as others but he promised a great welcome. Matzzon
As true as it is and how sad it might be, this is something that regards all businesses in the Thai tourism sector. How come this guy gets to have free commercial in the news in a bid to save his business? 2
