Thai agree to remove landmine signs on Cambodian land

Featured Replies

The Thai authorities which had placed landmine signs on the Cambodian side of the border early this month for peoples’ safety has now officially agreed to remove them.

This was agreed upon yesterday after a visit by Lieutenant Colonel Khay Khet, director of the Cambodia-Thailand Border Relations Task Force together with Thai officials at the Boeng Trakoun port who visited the stretch at the border posts 27-28 in Thmar Romiel Khang Lech village, Banteay Chhmar commune, Thmar Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province which is opposite the geography of Village 2, Nong Veng commune, Lak Hansay district, Buriram province, Thailand.

The Thai inspection team visit to the demining of the landmine sign was upon the request of the deputy commander and chief of staff of the 5th Army Division, Major General Seng Thearin. He had directed the Thai officials to remove the landmine signs along the 189-metre  stretch along the borderline. A senior military officer in the Military Regions said: “At the request of the Maj Gen Seng Thearin today we met the Cambodian officials. We visited the sites and agreed to remove the landmine signs that we had put up on Cambodian land,” he said.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Why didn't they put them on Thailand side as advance warning.

They probably only be as effective as stop signs.

Ah Ha! Illegal migrants???

Bloody cheek. Putting up signs on someone else's land. Illegal crossing of the border. Defacing Cambodian land. Were I the Cambodians, it would be a diplomatic incident and clear violation of sovereignty.

Sounds like relations are a bit strained.

Interesting event. The Cambodians told the Thais what to do and the Thai army obeyed. If only all cross border situations globally were so easy to solve.

If only they could remove the landmines...
