The ruling Cambodian People’s Party yesterday blasted ex-Cambodia National Rescue Party leaders over their failure to return to Cambodia today as promised to face their ongoing court trial on the charge of “plotting” to overthrow the government. Several former leaders, of the court-dissolved CNRP, led by their ex-vice president Mu Sochua, announced their return to the Kingdom on January 4 to attend the upcoming trial at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

 

However, the ex-CNRP party announced on Saturday that Sochua has now rescheduled her flight home to Cambodia to mid-January. CPP spokesman Sok Eysan said yesterday that Sochua dared not return to Cambodia today as promised.

 

“The Cambodian People’s Party is popular through good deeds with the people, the people love and trust it,” he said. “Those who say that the CPP is losing popularity are saying the opposite of the truth.” Eysan said in the event the ex- CNRP former leaders figures hold another foreign passport, they need an entry visa, which seems impossible for the “outlawed rebel group” to obtain.
