I read in CM Mail that there had been a change of leadership (mayor).

Do any of you have the full story, or parts thereof ?

Just curious.

Yeah, this should be interesting. I wonder what his agenda will be for the city???

We await with baited breath...

Hopefully to get the superhighway underpasses finished ASAP.. But i somehow doubt it.

Off topic: What the heck does baited breath mean anyway? I mean I know what the saying means but where the heck does it come from. What ever kind of bait I can think of it really means you have really bad breath....doesn't it?

"baited" is actually "bated", which is a shortened version of "abated".

So it means "I wait with short breath", but does that mean, "I am holding my breath so please be quick", or "I am holding my breath for a short time, then I will breath again so it doesn't really matter".

I am holding my breath so please be quick. As if the news were so exciting you were holding your breath. :o

Chiang Mai Mail

Long time Chiang Mai Mayor Boonlert Buranupakorn, in office since 2002 and elected by popular vote in 2004, threw in the towel on Friday after his city councilors walked out on him in a show of dissatisfaction. The Mayor’s abrupt resignation caused the Municipal Council to be dissolved and the future of city politics to enter into a new era of government leadership.

Apparently the governor will appoint an interim mayor until elections can be held, which will be within 60 days.

One of my staff told me that he quit because he asked for money to prepare Chiang Mai against flooding. He was refused the money so he resigned so he wouldn't get the blame when the flooding starts again. :o

Maybe the Hororable Gov would consider putting together an interim ruling group from within the members of this forum...... It would seem that we have enough opinions from learned members that could surely run this fair city..... Wouldn't need any CV's or the like .... Just look back in the threads of this forum to see how it should be done and run...

Funding from the central govt has been virtually non existent . So I would suspect that there is no money coming for flood prevention and from what I've been told they don't even have the budget for chemicals for those big noisy mosquito sprayers.

Hopefully our next mayor won't suggest an ice skating track to Chiang Rai and a waterslide to Loei. :o

Yes, and who can forget the high speed gondolas to Mae Hong Son.

I dare not ask if these are real examples from our esteemed administration.

The story that I had from Mrs JxP was slightly different . . . . apparently and allegedly :o he told the council that if anybody asked him again about the B500M that still hadn't been dished out to those who had losses from the flooding of two years ago he would resign, so . . . . somebody asked!
