Thai Internet User - Got Cut Off ? Need To Get A Message Out ?

Featured Replies

Here's a story that may get people out of a pickle, and before i continue, in light of recent anti circumnavigation

regulations, this is not a work around - 'tis just one of those things.

I had an appointment to speak to a friend in BKK last night. After hours of waiting we discovered they could only get local content, no messengers, no websites (apart from thai hosted/content) etc.

We finally found a way to chat - and i post this here cos there may be cases when an emergancy chat is needed. So how did we do it?.....read on :o

The simple answer is Skype - that lovable voice & video chat software. Because of it's nature of authentication using dynamic supernodes, it's practically unblockable in some respects (that's a lie, it can be blocked, but that method blocks a sh*tload more). No voice, no video, no vanilla IM chat. BUT, a nice fat user status window (I think it's called "current mood" in skype).

So, we ended up having a frantic chat using the status window - may look weird to others in the contact list, but i thought it was invaluable last night........

Ps: YMMV.
