Hi!

I'm clearing out my HD and want to burn some compilations to DVD. The sources range from mpegs, quicktimes, avis etc - can anyone recommend any freeware that could do the job of splicing them and re-encoding them into a .iso file to burn to DVD?

Any suggestions would be massively appreciated!

Thanks!

Yep, there is more to burning dvds than meets the eye, for simplicity , as an amateur, I have found what I regard as a great , easy to use program called 'dvdflick' check google it will show up at the top.

On my old machine it used to take 6hours to do a movie but with my new dual processor it only takes just over an hour, but simple. :o

You didn't say if you were using Windows or MacOS, but if you are using Mac, Toast will take any of the formats you have mentioned, encode them and create a DVD that is playable on DVD players. It takes about two clicks.

As you have a DVD writer I am surprised it did not come bundled with a DVD burning programme.

Possibly from Intervideo.

Check your programmes list, using the start button.

I'm running XP at the moment, and the onl DVD software it came bundled with is CyberLink Power DVD, which only serves as a DVD player...

Any other suggestions?

Nero 7 Premium will do the job as well, create menu, encode and burn all in one program, of course it is not really fast, count on several hours for a full DVD, the burning is not time consuming, the encoding is.

As noted above, virtually every writer comes with a suite of programs, often Nero. If they are not installed on the PC, then check the box {either of the writer} or if it was a build-up system the motherboard box is often the hiding place :o

Try Start ->Control Panel ->Add or Remove Programs and look for Nero x on the list.
