PHUKET: Even before the 10-day snap shutdown of all pubs and bars on the island ordered on Thursday came into effect, entertainment venue operators in Patong had suffered heavily, bearing the brunt of not just a full year without international tourists, but also under bungling bureaucracy that saw entertainment venue workers initially delayed in being vaccinated against COVID-19.

The head of the Patong Entertainment Business Association (PEBA) has openly criticised the system for people to register to be vaccinated for COVID-19, calling the system over-complicated and overlooking the need to prioritise entertainment venue workers in the key tourism town.

Initial hiccups in getting people to register saw the association having to repeatedly submit names and details of more than 500 staff and management, PEBA President Weerawit Kreuasombat told The Phuket News.

bungling bureaucracy

Situation normal!

I am still thinking about this in the original source... :

"“Although business is still very quiet, some officers who make their own benefits from operators keep coming to Bangla Rd. We are dying, as we have no income, but they keep coming to get benefits from us. It is like entertainment operators and workers are being beaten by the officers,” he said.

“In normal situations, we understand they do it, as we tend to operate in the grey areas, but for now we hardly have any income which must be spent on paying electricity bills and employees. I want this problem to be highlighted,” he said."

Well, can you give them blood? I'm sure they will take anything!

not a single sentence in this article makes sense

Bureacrats everywhere will make a process as complicated and difficult as possible, it helps justify their jobs. Thailand, and the Philippines, take it to a whole new level!

It's a cultural thing, don't worry yourself too much about it!

Maybe not making sense but there’s a few home truths there

Well the BIB (and army) always demanded payment from the owner/operators here, in order to overlook late opening hours, underage workers and similar. And even if everything was above board and legal with the bars etc, then the BIB would still demand payment, otherwise they would be harassed by them and would soon lose their workers and custom.

Corruption always existed, as it does throughout Thailand, and although this subject has been brought up before, nothing has been done about it because this money funds the local powers, and also travels up the pipeline to the top, wherever that may be.

So someone who "bought their position" with the hope of making a few million out of it are feeling a bit peeved at the moment I would think.

SPOT ON!

however the ROI is still very much acceptable, just a little longer than in previous years
