US has provided more than $4 million for conservation activities at Bak Kheng temple

Featured Replies

For the past 17 years, the US Embassy in Phnom Penh has been proud to support the World Heritage Foundation’s conservation activities at Phnom Bakheng with more than $4 million from the US Ambassador’s Fund. The United States for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), has also assisted in the skills of hundreds of Cambodian professionals and workers in various activities related to conservation, architecture, construction and management, according to an announcement of the US Embassy yesterday.

According to the US Embassy, the project to preserve Phnom Bakheng, which dates back to the 10th century, is now being run by a group of people capable of meeting the project’s needs. The capacity of the team is reflected in the occasional request of other international staff working in the Angkor area to help transfer the skills they have gained from their on-site experience.

Buying their way, for 17 years, into a navy base that did not exist until the the last 4 years (or less). ???? Right that makes perfect sense.

Um, I'm pretty sure that the US wasn't trying to buy their way into the "Chinese naval base" 17 years ago when they started donating money to the temple.
