Ubuntu Upgrades...

Featured Replies

I have a desktop and a laptop. I started out with Ubuntu 5, ordered 6 which arrived OK. I then moved on to Ubunto 7.04 which I installed on the laptop and it works great.

I would like to upgrade the desktop from 6 to 7.4 but it is such a pain to reinstall all the applications I have already and had to install again on the laptop, does anyone know how to upgrade from 6 to 7.4 without reformatting the hard drive?

Good old Windows despite its faults allows you to upgrade versions without reinstalling everything, why not Linux?

You can too, and not only Ubuntu! I just upgrade a server via ssh simply by typing:

apt-get update

apt-get dist-upgrade

In your case, better use the GUI:

gksudo 'update-manager -c'
