I have a few things to hock before jetting off to Canuckland.

* Bodum/Starbucks 8-cup french coffee press

* Starbucks Barista coffee grinder

* Lexmark Z816 desktop color/bw printer

* Thermopad heating pad (wet/dry) 25cm x 50cm

* Belkin WirelessG Travel Router

* small, white desk lamp (efficient bulb included)

* books in English

- My Life (Clinton) - paper

- Security Analysis 3rd Ed. (Graham) - hard

- Essentials of Investments 3rd Ed. (Bodie/Kane/Marcus) - hard

- Mao, The Unknown Story (Chang, Halliday) - paper

- The DaVinci Code (Brown) - paper

- The Rough Guide to Hong Kong & Macau - hard

- Thai Folktales & Law (Shytov) - paper

- Digital Fortress (Brown) - paper

- Little Angels: Life as a Novice Monk in Thailand (Pannapadipo) - paper

- A Brief History of Time (Hawking) - paper

Wow .. aren't I the wannabe intellectual ...

Anyway, everything is in pristine condition except for the printer and desk lamp - which are a year old but still in great shape. Everything needing electricity runs on 220v, which is why I can't take it to Canada. You're welcome to research the going prices for these items and low-ball me on the bid. I'll accept the highest bid that isn't "insulting." Anything I don't sell will be put in storage at the boyfriend's house in approximately a month's time from now (end of June). Free delivery in CM proper (don't make me drive too far).

I see I can't include my email address .. so to submit a bid, just reply to this post.

Gecko Books at Thapae Gate will give you a decent price for most of these and you can sell them all at once (other than maybe Security Analysis and maybe Essentials of Investment and maybe the hardback Rough Guide - How old is it? I've never seen a hardback Rough Guide :D ).

If you have problem, PM me.

Just make sure that you see the Manager as some of the newer staff have no clue about what is worth what.

Don't forget to ask for the manager as the new staff all want to help out, but they tend to not offer very much if they don't know what something is worth.

It is possible that the manager will offer you a low price for the books that I said we might not want. That means that we don't think that we can sell it very easily, but are willing to take the chance if we don't have to pay too much. You can say no, and we won't be insulted.

Customers don't seem to realize this, but many books will NEVER sell - at all. If we really wanted the book we would offer more, but if you just want to get rid of it, we get it cheaply and then everyone ends up happy. :o

I was only talking about one or two that might be too academic.

The price for the popular ones should be pretty good. :o

Gonzo,

What nice things to say! :o

I'm not giving up on CM per se. I met my bf in CM seven years ago and had been coming every year to see him. We took vacations around - Phuket, Koh Chang, Hong Kong - and I was also supporting him. Then about 3 years ago, I found that I could immigrate to Canada and sponsor him as my conjugal partner. That would be far better than what we were doing, because we could both work and earn a reasonable wage, we could both own property - basically, we could both be full citizens. That'd never happen in Thailand, and I can't sponsor him to the U.S.

Canada requires we live together for 12 consecutive months. So after a lot of planning, I quit my (very good) job in the U.S. and moved here to be a teacher .. and to wait for our visas. A few weeks ago, we got the initial "ok" with the interview waived and a request for our medicals, police records, bank statements, and landing fees. So assuming everything goes as planned, we should be there in July or possibly August.

Yes, I'm selling nice things. But it won't affect our financial future - so no reason to be greedy.

EW if you don't mind, are you a US or Canadian Citizen....... cuz I didn't think you could sponsor him if you were US ??

Actually, this is something that I want everyone to know. The best way to get the best prices for your books from us is to bring them to the main branch of Gecko Books and specify that you want the owner to look at them. I am there every morning and every evening 6-9 PM.

We buy at every location, but I am familiar with a lot of older books that my staff have never seen, and will give you a good price for something like the Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer, which some of the staff have never heard of before. On the other hand, the manager and assistant manager are both excellent at buying books, so you don't have to wait for me if you don't want to!

I'm a U.S. citizen immigrating to Canada under the skilled worker category. I guess you'd say I'm not sponsoring him so much as we're just immigrating together. We're on the same application - as primary applicant and common-law partner.
