BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is to involve the Thailand Consumers Council to address issues of inaccurately depicted product listings on e-commerce platforms, urging potential consumers to double-check all the details with the sellers before placing an order.

Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn said his ministry is planning to enhance the protection system for e-commerce customers, by increasing the monitoring of listings on e-commerce platforms and improving the complaint system.

The ministry currently runs the 1212 complaint hotline for electronic transactions, from which complaints received regarding e-commerce orders will be reviewed together with e-commerce platforms.

The ministry now aims to involve the Thailand Consumers Council, the general public, and members of the media to participate in its online crime suppression workgroup.

Mr. Chaiwut said he is in favor of the cooperation between the Thailand Consumers Council and e-commerce providers to monitor online transactions because this would allow the ministry to swiftly notify the general public on suspicious activities, or block traffic to suspicious websites.

With the increased popularity of online shopping, the minister urged shoppers to do a background check on the sellers before placing an order and to make any money transaction.
