webfact
By Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Model for economic development has become a key agenda for the public and private sectors in Thailand. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit today (15 Dec) discussed with Michael Heath, of the U.S. Mission in Thailand, about Thailand’s BCG push. Mr. Jurin said after the discussion that the United States has expressed readiness to support Thailand’s BCG policy, which is slated to become a key agenda at the 2022 APEC forum that Thailand is hosting. Thailand’s BCG drive will also be discussed in an upcoming meeting between the Thai prime minister and the US secretary of state. According to Mr. Jurin, the US Charge d’ Affaires asserted that America placed importance in electric vehicles (EV) production, and many US companies were looking at investing in Thailand for this purpose. Most recently, Ford Motor Company committed $950 million or about 30 billion baht toward investment at its auto factories in Thailand. The commerce minister revealed that Mr. Heath commended Thailand’s handling of its supply chain and the overall economy during the pandemic. The latter also thanked Thailand for protecting intellectual property and for raising the matter among ASEAN countries. In addition, Mr. Heath reportedly made known to the commerce minister that approval has now been granted for the exportation of Thai pomelo to the United States. Mr. Jurin said he asked the US Charge d’ Affaires to communicate with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to remove Thailand from the intellectual property Watch List. He said Thailand has continuously enforced laws and worked with the USTR to forge progress in IP protection. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-12-15 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
