Hi,

I left Thailand in June 2020 and have just returned this week and seen I have a letter for a tax refund.

Does anyone have experience of cashing the letter in for the refund?

One problem I see is that some sites say you need a tax ID card but I don't have it. Is it 100% needed and if so how do I get a replacement, I no longer work in Thailand and just here for a holiday.

Thanks

I presume you are talking about income tax.  If someone has told you that you have a refund coming, I think they must have your Tax Card Number.  For a replacement card, I think you need to go to a Revenue Department office.

If you received a tax refund letter from the Revenue Office take it to Krung Thai bank and they will issue a money card that can be used at ATM to get the money. I have done this for many years with little trouble.

My experience last year is that they (Krung Thai Bank) wanted to see the Thai Tax ID card (not just the number).  A replacement or first time Thai Tax ID can be obtained from your local Thai Revenue Office.  The OP's letter about the tax refund should be sufficient reason to get a Thai Tax ID card, he does not have to be working in Thailand.
