Help wanted identifying bird!

Featured Replies

This bird flew into our window and seems very dazed, so my wife has pt him in a cage for a couple of days to llok after him, before she releases him again. She's done this with several birds over the years, but she doesn't know what this one is, or what it eats. Any help appreciated, thank you

It actually looks like a juvenille (fledgling)...perhaps it was learning how to fly and crashed. Why leave it in a cage....if there's nothing broken....let it go

Looks like the same type of bird that I took out of the mouth of one of our dogs:

From an internet search I believe it's a Green Billed Malkoha, but they have very long tail feathers, which yours seem to have lost. It can probably not fly too well until they grow back.

From my "Birds of Thailand" I would agree. There is an illustration of a juvenile, which has a shorter tail and slightly duller colours than the adult.

Thanks for the helpful replies. My wife usually has a good instinct for when animals need help, she's nursed an Owl, a Kingfisher, several Mynah birds, and quite a few others over the years. It flew headlong into our glass front door, and was laid on the floor, until my wife picked it up, before our dogs could get at it.
Hopefully it will be OK to be on it's way tomorrow, or the next day!

Lucky bird.  Most of the ones that fly into my windows are dead when I go to check what the bang was.

Update, he was fine this morning and his Mother came calling for him, so my wife released him back to the wild. Hopefully he will have learned that it hurts to fly into windows!

Thanks again for the helpful replies!

Could be a greater or lesser tit lol ????

When I look at my windows I see very clear reflections of the trees in the yard.  So the birds are thinking they are flying into a tree not a window.

Juvey Green-billed Malkoha. As an adult, they have impressively LONG, beautiful tails.

Most of the hotties sans "baditude" are in Bangkok and Udon Thani. Pattaya/Jomtien pretty much sucks compared to those two. TOTAL sausage fest. Live in Jomtien and just spent a week in Bangkok and a week in Udon. In Chiang Mai now and it's hurtin' for certain too.
