Opinions On Swissair/lufthansa From Europe Pls

Featured Replies

Can you give me your opinions on Swissair & Lufthansa please.

I'm flying from Paris to BKK on the 29th June.

Returning to Belfast on 11th July.

Best deal I've found so far is £622.60 via Expedia.

Swissair from Paris to BKK with a one hour stopover in Zurich.

Return leg is with Lufthansa, stopover in Frankfurt for one hour then onto Heathrow.

Followed by a BMI flight to Belfast.

Never flown with either airline before. In the past I've used Emirates, Eva, Gulf Air and Thai.

Thanks

All airlines are members of the Star Alliance, so I can collect airmiles with my BMI card.

A frequent traveller and Swiss national with whom I dined a couple of days ago said she preferred Lufthansa over Swiss because of the much better service by LH. Even makes detours just to be able to fly LH.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I do not agree about better service on LH. This may be true on short flights in Europe, a Swiss don't gives a lot of food there, but on long flights they are better. Swiss is fliying with Airbus 340 to Bangkok, witch is a much nicer Plane than the old 740 LH uses to go here. Swiss has one of the biggest individual Screen in economy, LH has old overhead Screens and no choise of movies. Service is on par international. Business Class; I still would fly Swiss. Zurich is btw. the much nicer Airport to change Planes than Frankfurt. And you can buy some good Spruengli Chocolate there.

My other options are:-

Out: Swiss Rtn: Austrian Airlines (never flown Austrian either) £20 more and same times

Out: Aeroflot (worst airline ever?) Rtn: BA (how are BA?) £330 more but slightly shorter time in the air.

I've passed through Zurich in the past and I must agree with CHdiver, the facilities and shopping are pretty good.

I'm not a fussy passenger, especially as I'm flying economy class. But it is nice to have a decent in-flight entertainment system and amiable staff. Last time I flew with Gulf Air, I stood at the back of the plane for almost the entire flight chatting to the stewardess'. Ended up dating one for 7 months. :o That's customer service! :D

swiss for economy on the way to BKK, hands down. Individual entertainment systems, leather seats.

I am swiss but if you have the possibility try to fly with Lufthansa and moreover Tha that are much better!!!!

Thanks for the comments. I confirmed the booking today, sticking with the original itinerary.

I'll post my thoughts after my trip.

i take a sleeping pill so dont know anything till get to where im going :o

I know its too late, but as somebody who is involved in airliner's business, I would have recommended you the following:

To BKK: SWISS

return to Belfast: Austrian (vienna is an excellent and very well-organized airport for transit)

Lufthansa is okay, but the food on economy is modest, and the legroom ridiculous. and no private screens, as has been mentioned before.

but its number 1 when it comes to Safety

I am LH Senator and obviously fly a lot...

DO NOT fly Aeroflot. Old machines, bad service, drunk passengers etc....

Austrian Airlines is just as good as LH or Swiss.

Nothing wrong with the mighty "flot!"

The planes they use from Moscow to Bangkok are not old at all! They are about 13 years old and are fly by wire, too.

The crews are not surly if you know how to deal with them. Treat them as individuals and not small cogs in a big machine and see the results!

Drunk passengers? Well if you cant beat em....

Just for the record: Swissair does not exist anymore. It went bankrupt and out of business after a ruinous policy of one of their CEO (Bruggisser).

Today's national carrier is "Swiss International Airlines" and it came out of a previous small company Crossair (hence the flight number is still LX, whereas Swissair used to have SR).

I had several opportunities to compare Swiss and Thai International. In my experience and with today's aircrafts (both have Airbus A340 600), Thai International has a better in-flight service. Unfortunately the ground services in Zurich Airport is rather minimal.

BTW, all 3 airlines, Swiss, Thai and Lufthansa are today in the Star Alliance group, Swiss being held by Lufthansa.

how are BA?

BA - Hmmm great if your only 4'2" . . . sod all leg room, miserable staff, all in all - I'd never fly with BA .. .. EVER.

I'll never fly on them again - my mate who being a short arsed 5'5" complains about being cramped on a BA flight!!

too late now but for your return journey i would have recommended Qatar air via doha to gatwick or heathrow. brilliant service, airbus 340, full at seat entertainment, cheaper than thai,lh,or swiss, brand new planes, and star alliance air miles as they are a lh partner

they are also bmi partners ---- quatar air

I flyed before with lufthansa, austrian, aerosvit, etc.

For my opinion lufthansa and austrian airlines overpriced so much. Best selection is aerosvit (ukrainian airlines), you can buy business class for price of economic at lufthansa. Also less time in air, good food, normal boing ER airplane. And much better service for my opinion than at lufthansa.
