BANGKOK, April 18 (TNA) – The Fruit Board intensified measures to ensure that durian exports to China are free of COVID-19.

Alongkorn Polabutr, advisor to the minister of agriculture and cooperatives, said Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sri-on, in his capacity as the chairman of the Fruit Board, assigned officials concerned to seriously cooperate with authorities in Chanthaburi province and the Thai Durian Association to prevent COVID-19 contamination among durian exports.

The order was in response to the report that China detected COVID-19 contamination in a container of Thai durian fruits exported to China, at the Mohan Border Checkpoint, and suspended its import of Thai durian from April 12 to 14.

Well, there you go with the vaccines that are left

I’m guessing they mean the surface of the fruit can have Covid on it.  Because there is no evidence you can catch Covid by ingesting it.

Please boost them with 2 Sinovac and 1 Sinopharm and forced covid test everyday....That should convince PaPa Xi....

If people with covid smelled like durian we could take evasive action and keep clear.

Could give each Durian a chinese vaccine before leaving Thailand, on their way to Scheina.

What self-respecting covid virus would go within 100 meters of a durian ?

It's difficult to comprehend the utter stupidity of all this, and the fact they are taking it seriously.

As i understood, covid has a short lifespan (4 days) out of a biological body.

Could be longer on metal or smooth surfaces. Now they find it on durian?

The Chinese spit on it when coming to China?

How on earth you come up the idea to test it for covid? Getting prices down? Something fishy.

Easily killed with UV-C light, in seconds.

Lets make it global then, all countries export needs to be treated with UV-C.

EVERYTHING, even submarines.

…PRC prop

what if Lao customs officers sneezed and spit when opening container for border check up on entry or even on exit to china?

that would be more likely to detecte and not some several days old residues from Chantaburi fruit pickers.

That distance 1300km takes at least 2 days for a fully loaded some 20 tons container at temperatures some 60C inside container. Add to it waiting at 2 borders - usually many hours. There might be even obligatory change of driver on the border due to covid regulations.

Covid thrives in low temperatures, like chilled or frozen meat. There were many cases of out brakes in meat processing companies and even in beef imported from south america to australia and to china

I didn't know Durian could catch Covid....

Do the Chinese inhale durian?

Better to just eat it like normal folk.
