NEW YORK — Child hunger rates in New York City remain much higher than before the COVID pandemic even though the economy is starting to bounce back, according to a new report from the anti-hunger City Harvest group.

Compared to pre-pandemic levels, about 55% more New York kids are going hungry today and one in four children “don’t know where their next meal will come from,” in a report to be released on Monday.

The good news is, the conservatives are making abortion illegal so obviously they will simultaneously pass legislation to help the poor and all those kids, right?

Or maybe they will cut services and give huge tax breaks and more loopholes to the rich…..as they always do.

The kids are obviously benefiting from trickle down economics.

From the time abortion was legalized to now, had all those kids been born, then had kids and grandkids of the or own............ I estimate the United States would have between 90- and 125-million more people.

Isn't it interesting that the same people who strenuously complain about the impact that "11 million illegal aliens" have on the country............ want to make abortion illegal, and potentially create a problem that is 10X greater?

Imagine the United States with 450 million people, instead of 335 million............!

Yikes! Talk about the potential for starving and hungry children!

Yikes! - - I thought this scam salespitch had died out!

But that doesn't mean it is okay to misrepresent the facts to guilt people into funding your charity.

Classic marketing model for every charity.  Sadly turns most people off from any charity.  I'll never donate to any, as most have silly administration cost, and are simply businesses hiding behind 'charity, non profit' loopholes.

so what happens to the kids? Luckily there are still people around with empathy who will donate. Imagine if nobody donated to charities. The US is founded on private charities as an alternative to the welfare state.

That's one opinion, which I disagree with.  'Founded' on no charity or welfare system, for well over few hundred years, from 1600s to 1900s.  Or 100 years if wanting to be technically the USA.

Not until 1870s and beyond, did any charities exist, and only in a few large cities/NYC, did you notice soup kitchens start to appear.

USA being more of straight capitalist society.  No basic income system, or even Social Security until the 20th century.

It seems now, most charities, are simply a business loophole.  And foundations, pretty much a joke, considering the example of the Clinton Foundation.  Nothing but a laundry mat and meeting hall for the corrupt.

AND nobody goes hungry in NYC, as plenty of social programs, providing free housing, healthcare & food.  Sadly abused by many, but at least there for those that truly do need assistance.

The churches have always been the charities in the past.

The original business model, masquerading as a non profit charity.  The biggest abusers of that loophole.  You're a bit delusional if you think they are charities.  Say no more.

By charities I mean they gave to the poor, not what some tax law says. The actual word charity.

Seems like inflation could be a factor, everything costing more. Hmmm, wonder who could tackle that problem.

Inflation in the Netherlands is around 11~12%.

It hasn’t resulted in anywhere near the levels of food poverty the US is experiencing.
