Siam Rath reported that Bangkok deputy police chief Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek and traffic chief Pol Maj-Gen Suwitcha Jindakham met with the BMA's Thaiphat Thanasombatkul of the Bureau of Traffic and Transportation and a representative of a Japanese organisation in the latest meeting (#5) to sort out Bangkok's perennial traffic issues.

Discussed was the installation of an ATC - an automated traffic control system.

The Thai capital is infamous for its traffic problems, notes ASEAN NOW, with criticism often being leveled at the police for manually operating the lights making matters worse.

In a confusing report Siam Rath mentioned what we believe to be JICA - the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.

Park and ride, has that been tried? you would have to provide car parking of course

Pound to a penny they all went to this meeting in their own individual cavalcades.......<deleted> up the traffic flow for miles around.

here is no need to meet any organization for the RTP. The only 2 things that should be done is proper education starting already in primary school, and decent exams for getting a drivers license. The other thing is enforce the rules.. a 7 year old driving a car... no helmets.... no stopping for traffic lights or zebra crossings, overloaded trucks , driving wrong side of the road. speeding, and many more things..Develop a good system and fine, not 2 or 3 hunderd THB but at least 1.500 THB and for the big expensive cars even much more.... and see things will improve

Forget the automated other than the brown envelope, manual is the way to go but with people who understand and want to do a good job, an auto system is good if all road users abide by the computers decision, a manual system is 100% better as long as the big stick is to hand.

My meaning is, an automated will tell the lights to go red, but who tells the monkey and his 3 mates to stop, thats where  the manual system and big stick come in.

There is another thread running where the level of IQ within the RTP was questioned. I think your post illustrates what that level may be.  They will never ever go for an effective automated traffic control system here as it is not in the interests of the RTP to have traffic flowing smoothly.
