Authorities to round up, deport illegals in country

Following a sharp criticism from the US, the Ministry of Interior and the National Police will launch an anti-human trafficking operation to tighten the noose around illegal foreigners staying in the country. The US State Department, in a report released on human trafficking on July 19,  listed Cambodia as third-tier country for human trafficking, meaning that Cambodia has no will to fight against human trafficking.

 

Sar Kheng, Interior Minister and chairman of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, announced the government decision during the closing ceremony of a police leadership course at the Police Academy of Cambodia on Tuesday. He said all foreigners, except diplomats, will be screened to find out if they have entered Cambodia legally or illegally and to identify whether they are victims of human trafficking.
