How about investigating each site for potential safety breaches or short comings and then reengineering out all existing safety issues, of which fire risk is only one of the potential outcomes of poor construction and design.

if the root cause of accidents isn't resolved then lives remain at risk.

How about closing every establishment that doesn't have a licence to operate.

To gain a licence the establishment has to hold a safety/fire certificate.

Who will do the inspections and reports. The same crew as now?

Interior Ministry asked to enforce laws to prevent repeat of Mountain B tragedy as 83 bars shuttered in Bangkok

By Erich Parpart

Senators urged the interior minister to strictly enforce the law against corrupted officials and find ways to improve regulatory measures to prevent another Mountain B tragedy in the future.

“If the law was strictly enforced since the registration process and there was a proper inspection by officials then such incident could have been prevented,” Senator Wanchai Sornsiri told parliament today.

“There is also no denying that the interior minister is not involved at all because civil servants that were in charge were under his supervision,” he said.

His comments came after an initial police investigation into the fire at Mountain B club in Sattahip, Chonburi, which killed 15 people on early Friday morning found that the owner did not have a license to operate an entertainment venue. More than 40 others were also injured during the incident.

Blah, blah, blah. These changes were mentioned and proposed following the Kader & Santika fires (among others) in years past. Nothing was done then, and nothing will be done now. Third world country, third world issues, more innocent people will die. Get used to it.

How are you going to stop corruption if you have defamation laws that will bankrupt anyone that say anything bad about anyone, even if it is true ???

They must scrap or re-write the defamation law and give whistle blower protection if they ever want to get rid of the rampant corruption that exist in Thailand.

It is Blah, blah.....as it usually is.

The Santika disco burnt maybe 10+ years ago...several killed, and to my knowledge, no serious charges laid.....

Then Jomtien hotel burnt down, many killed...not sure of the legal outcome...

There have been several others...the same lame words..inspections...fire escapes...etc...a couple of years later, it's business as usual....nothing ever get's followed through.

Let's hope that Bangkok' Chadchart, does follow through.

"The Santika Club fire occurred on Thursday 1 January 2009, in the Santika Club nightclub in Ekkamai, Watthana, Bangkok, Thailand, where New Year celebrations were taking place. A total of 66 people were killed and another 222 injured when fire swept through the nightclub during the New Year's celebration as a band, coincidentally called "Burn", was playing."

If you read the full link below, you'll see there were criminal prosecutions, but they didn't amount to much in the end considering the gravity of the offenses...

And if my memory serves right, the person put forward as the supposed manager or owner of club was, in reality, some kind of low-level flunky....  And the real interests behind the club, supposedly including a senior police officer, were never touched.
