Football - In the English Premier League Erik Ten Haag's reign as new Manchester United boss did not get off to a good start as Brighton pulled off a credible 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

 

Brentford came from 2 down to draw 2-2 at Leicester City and champions Manchester City won 2-0 at West Ham United with debutant Erling Haaland scoring both of the goals.

 

In the German Bundesliga Stuttgart and Leipzig drew 1-1 and Koln beat Schalke 3-1, In France's Lique 1 there were wins for Lens, Lille, Montpellier, Lorient and Marseille.

 

Moto GP - Italian Francesco Bagnaia claimed back-to-back wins with victory in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.The Ducati rider, who is third in the world championship, won June's Dutch MotoGP.  

 

Spaniard Maverick Vinales was second on an Aprilia with Australian Jack Miller of Ducati third. Championship leader Fabio Quartararo was eighth.
