The 2022 daily minimum wage is set to be increased by 5.02%, tentatively from October 1st, pending final deliberation by the cabinet. This would raise the average to 337 baht, according to Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Labour Boonchob Suttamanaswong yesterday (Friday).

 

He added that the wage committee took into account several factors, including employers, employees and the purchasing power in the country, which is expected to increase.

 

The daily minimum wage varies by province. With adjustments, the highest minimum daily wage of 354 baht will apply in Chonburi, Rayong and Phuket. The lowest, of 328 baht, will apply in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Nan and Udon Thani, with 353 baht in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon.

It really means nothing in a cash economy people will work for less if they are desperate sad really I see people working in the rice fields up here for 300 a day

No wonder girls prefer staring at the ceiling for an hour or so. 

The daily rate of less than 400 baht is an insult and these people can work 12 hours a day or longer it’s time the government came up with a decent hourly rate

Whilst I totally agree there should be a higher minimum Wage, the downside of that is that many Expats, and locals would be unable to live in the Country, as costs will sky rocket.

As soon as there is a wage rise, everybody and his Dog wants some of the extra Money the People earn, so up go the prices , which causes Inflation.

Another huge downside, is that Thai Goods would be more expensive on the World Market, which would in turn mean that people will loose their Jobs as the Country becomes less competitive in Exports.

Without the rapid rise in current Inflation being bought under some kind of control, wage  rises will just heap more misery upon those that really dont deserve it.

Key word here is "may". Sounds a bit like an empty election promise, imo.

The problem is somewhere else. By raising minimum wage just cause more inflation. No other plans to stop inflation!!!! Interest rate is the key, but it seems banks can not handle it at this time.

5.02% of bu$$er-all is still a pittance.

better to be dead than work for that wage

Minimum wage thing not do much. Good that some factory workers salary rise but still most poor people get same wage than before! If they want work , they get what somebody who need workers pay them. Many times it is not even 300 bth/day!

The main problem with Inflationary control, is the BOT cannot put up the Borrowing Rate too much as it will tip Thousands and Thousands into NPL overnight.

Such is the amount of Household Debt, much of which is secured against bad assets such as Vehicles and Consumers Goods

You're aware that the increase from 200 Baht to 354 Baht happened in a mere eight years. I just wonder, if the individual worker's output increased that much as well as, if not, the labour today would be less efficient. 
Take 354 Baht and multiply by 30 (if the worker clocks each and every day of the month) and you'll get 10,620 Baht while the government acclaimed minimum is apparently 12,000 Baht.

The result is, that nobody wants to work anymore; rather enjoy Somtam back home, do a little house work and carpe diem. With a salary of 12K I would say, that Thais exists but cannot live. 

Get the government's little fingers out of all those tills; the free market will decide if, when, how much and where to do what. Thai workers earn manyfold on Singaporean construction sites, in all sorts of jobs in Scandinavia, Middle East and Northern Africa hence replace the vacuum with the AEC2015 stipulated treaty of free movement of people within the ASEAN area ........ and Bob's your uncle!

The base reasoning for a mandatory [as in: legislated] and fair hourly wage system with the appropriate regulations and safeguards. 

A bit dreamy to expect any of this to be derived from employers, government or the slave-ridden systems. 

For any of this to ever come about - the desired will of the collective workforce requires a labour rebellion......en masse.
