webfact
Bangkok launches pilot separated food waste collection service The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched a pilot project to use specially-designed compressed garbage trucks which have separate bins for food waste, in the hope of reducing the costs of garbage disposal. According to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, the special garbage trucks, which are painted in green with a bold statement which reads “No Mixing (of food waste)”, will initially be introduced in Phaya Thai, Pathumwan and Nong Khaem districts for a month, after which the City Hall will assess the results. If the pilot is successful, he said that the project will gradually be expanded to cover all 50 districts in the capital by March. Wiggy
It’ll be difficult to train people to do this. In my condo we have green bins (recycling: paper, glass etc.) and black bins for everything else, and with signs indicating this. However, I constantly see recyclable stuff in the black bins. Either laziness or ignorance, I guess.
MrJ2U
We put garbage in garbage bag then into a bin. Bottles, aluminum, and glass go into another bin. Once a week a guy comes and separates it and gives a little money, 30-50 baht. He takes it and gets a little bit of cash. I'm glad someone just takes it away. Years ago everyone just dumped everything in an open field. Horrible.
