BANGKOK (NNT) - Importance is still being placed worldwide in the promotion of work skills among youths and young adults. This is illustrated by the consistent holding of the WorldSkills international competition for labor skills. This year’s WorldSkills event has kicked off in Switzerland, where a Thai representative is currently fighting for a medal.

Labor Minister Suchart Chomklin spoke of the launch of the 46th WorldSkills event, which is known this year as the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition. He said Channarong Phuengkasem is the first Thai representative to compete this year. Mr. Channarong was fielded under the modeling design category and demonstrated his skill at the Bern, Switzerland competition venue. Out of all the competitors, who hailed from 6 countries, Mr. Channarong was placed within the top 3 positions in terms of score. The competition result will be announced tonight (12 September), and the Thai public is invited to follow up on the progress of Thailand’s representatives.

WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition is being held in 15 countries and comprises 62 competition categories. 2022’s event is being held under a “special edition” format due to the cancellation of WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 in May due to the pandemic. Over 1,000 competitors from around the world are demonstrating their skills in this event.

Mr. Suchart said the Department of Skill Development will keep the Thai public updated on the progress of Thai representatives at the event. Thailand is fielding 12 representatives in 11 categories, who are to demonstrate their skills at 5 competition venues. The venues include those located in Switzerland, Germany, South Korea, Denmark, and France. Updates of the Thai representatives can be found on the WorldSkills Thailand Facebook page.
