Gen. Prawit and officials visited a housing community in Mae Sot yesterday where land permits were given to more than 1200 locals who will now be able to live and work on forest reserve land which was until now a disputed area for settlement. 

 

A final appeal has been turned down by the supreme court in the case of financier Rakesh Saxena, who was sentenced to 335 years in prison 26 years ago on three counts of embezzlement; the case involves the collapse of the Bangkok Bank of Commerce and the start of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. 

 

Police carried out a major drugs bust resulting in the arrest of 7 people in Nakhon Ratchasima, police acted on a tip off that drugs would be shipped across the Mekong river on route to Bangkok, officers stopped a truck and found several packs of drugs including methamphetamines, ecstasy pills and several others. 

 

Many parts of Bangkok became flooded again last night after extensive torrential rain. Water was around 15 centimeters deep in places, many cars parked underground were damaged,  meanwhile, areas north of Bangkok are likely to be severely flooded with a combination of water discharged from the Chao Phraya dam and further heavy rain.


However the interior minister said the country's reservoirs are still capable of holding more water.


The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports yesterday revealed a breakdown of visitors to Thailand for the month of July,  Malaysia topped the list with some 200 thousand visitors followed by India, 106 thousand… and  there were just under 61 thousand visitors from Vietnam.
