Chonburi—Chonburi Governor Thawatchai Srithong has signed a directive requiring all childcare centers in Chonburi to be under strict surveillance.

The directive came after a mass shooting committed by a former Thai police officer that as of now killed 38 people, most of whom were children at a childcare center in Nong Bua Lamphu province yesterday, October 6th.

I think strict surveillance on ex military or policeman who have guns and have been convicted of drug offences may be more effective?

Another public official grabbing his five minutes of fame by stating the bleedin' obvious.

It should be the case all the time.

The police have their hands full handing out tickets for traffic violations...no money in proper work.

Close the gate after the horse has bolted. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

What good will that do if someone turns up with a gun? Unless you have a SWAT team stationed at every child care centre.

"Seen to be doing" a knee jerk reaction that will fade to zero in weeks, as usual.

As Charlie says, it's a kneejerk reaction.  But commonsense would suggest that if a gunman cannot gain entry to the centre, then that must surely help.  So fire exit doors only open outwards, only 1 entrance that is locked and monitored at all times, with toughened glass so that no-one can easily enter the premises etc.

As if that would make a difference. The CCTVs will be broken, if ever delivered and the problem lies with the law enforcement on drugs, the law enforcement on guns and weapons as well as, first and foremost in such cases, the police recruiting incl. screening of psychologic ability to serve on the force.

The people doing the surveillance are the ones that should be under surveillance, and denied gun ownership.
