Mask wearing

Just spent 3 weeks in Calif. Didn't wear a mask since I stepped out of Airport in SF till I stepped on return airplane. Even in SF which was before in love with the mask is now maskless.

 

Even though the Minister of Health basically said mask wearing is over, today dropping my kid off at first day of school everyone was masked up.

When will this madness stop.

treat school environment similar to airport/airplane one.

Kids won't get sick much, but you or grandparents, might get it more serious.

Take your stand and order your kid don't wear mask. Or don't send him to school until nobody will try to force him to do so.

I fail to see the problem if people here wish to try and protect themselves and feel more comfortable wearing a mask, I do even if Californian's don't.

And I can't argue your comment, but, but is the mask for covid protection or smog protection as 1 Bangkok participant keeps giving as a reason for the mask. This particular school is keeping the mask mandate inside the classroom as I'm pretty sure the Health Minister said wasn't needed. 

 

Please prove me wrong.

 

At the 7-11 all people still wearing mask.

The mask requirement for schools has been relaxed, although individual schools can make their own rules. My son went back today (Rayong) and it is only recommended that the children wear a mask in the classroom, but not outside.  The Principal seemed confident that in a few more weeks he can get rid of it altogether ????

Yet the kids are all masked up checking in. I see a slow change among some locals here and go into local store with no mask and the checker had no mask, slow changes.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, you must do so. Knee and elbow pads also perhaps and maybe even a kevlar vest. And if we see you walking around dressed thusly, we wont judge.

Every time I go out, I have several in the truck, some at home, some sown into the lining of my jacket (for emergency use), we can't be too careful.

Easily smog protection, as I see it's starting even earlier this year.  Usually mid Nov, now mid/late Oct ... ???? ????

 

Lot of 70-80-90s, with a couple breaking 100 AQI

Freaking out is an exaggeration on your part. It's more bewilderment. At the school which relaxed the covid rules to include wearing masks outside. Yet when I picked up the kid from school, all kids wearing masks because no one wants to stand out. She wore her mask because the other kids did and they wear because all the adults working at the school wear masks.

 

I must admit it was a bit odd not wearing a mask in the US, even in the most liberal city around SF, eating at Pier 39, no masks.

The virus doesn't float around on its own, it is carried on small droplets of water/mucus that people expel when breathing heavily, coughing or sneezing.  A good quality mask will filter out these droplets.

Asking someone to wear a mask is no different than having a dress code at a restaurant, theatre, club, concert, play etc.

Taking protective measures because you don’t want to stand out is far preferable to not taking protective measures because you don’t want to stand out.

Japanese started wearing masks whenever they were sick, to lower chances of infecting others. Thais did follow, and it was customary in the offices for those sick to have masks on, to help lower the spread of germs. With pollution on increase, getting worse and longer lasting each year, it seems, the masks are also worn when the air quality outside is dreadful like right now. This used to last a month or so a decade ago, but we're up to probably to 6-7 months in a year now.

 

Wearing masks is also about showing respect for others, making others more comfortable with you. By not doing it, especially when others do, shows total disrespect to them, in their country, so you should not be surprised the only reason you are tolerated here is because of the money westerners are seen as bringing in. Otherwise you're about as loved as middle-eastern illegal migrant in Europe.

 

Lastly, masks and condoms are working in the same manner. They minimise chances of you infecting others, and to some level others infecting you, especially with some disease that has no immediate symptoms. Neither is mandatory. So why are you wearing those? Or in your words "when will this madness stop?"
