Rishi Sunak aims to bring factions together in cabinet reshuffle

Rishi Sunak has appointed his team of top ministers, on his first day as the UK's prime minister.

In a key speech outside No 10, he said he wanted to bring the country and party together, promising economic stability and confidence.

The cabinet reshuffle saw some predictable choices, and some that have surprised MPs.

"Unity, experience and continuity in some really key roles," are the themes No 10 say they wanted to convey.

So, what can we read into who is staying, who is going, and what it all means?

Suella Braverman is back…just days after leaking a document on a policy she didn’t agree with.

A document she sent to the wrong person.

Fireworks ahead one suspects and not just on November 5th.

Braverman, who still harbours her own leadership ambitions, was handed the job six days after she was forced to resign for a security breach for emailing confidential policy to a backbench MP, John Hayes, and trying to copy in his wife but mistakenly emailing it to another MP’s office. Officials raised alarm that Braverman may have been sharing sensitive information outside the department.

The person she emailed it to wasn’t an MP but someone who worked in their office.

Rishi Sunak has over taken Labour leader Keir Starmer in a popularity poll

Labour crisis as Sunak overtakes Starmer in popularity poll just days after becoming PM

The poll, conducted by Redfield and Wilton between 25 and 26 October, saw 39 percent of people say Mr Sunak would make a better Prime Minister, up six percent from the start of September.

Tick tick tick

braverman’s version of events not quite matching those of others involved…now was sunak aware of this when he “chose” to reinstate her…

”Sources told the Guardian that Braverman was confronted by the cabinet secretary, Simon Case, about the leaking of a sensitive document, rather than coming forward herself about what had happened. One said: “She only owned up to it when she was confronted with the evidence.”

A similar accusation was made by Jake Berry, the former Conservative party chairman, who said the issue was “really serious” and added: “As I understand it, the evidence was put to her and she accepted the evidence, rather than the other way round.”

The account appeared to contradict what Sunak said during his first prime minister’s questions on Wednesday.”

Tick tick tick

Looks like Rishi could lead the Conservatives to an election victory if his popularity increase keeps increasing .

I doubt that Boris Johnson would have been able to do that .

The media abuse of Boris and his removal may well have paved the way for another Conservative victory

Selective reporting by the Express (there's a surprise!).

The same poll also asked 'If a general election were held tomorrow which party (a) would you vote for? (b) expect to win? In both cases, Labour polled in the low/mid 40%, the Tories in low/mid 20%.
