BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has asked organizers of Loy Krathong events to ensure the safety of event participants, in wake of the Halloween crowd crush in Seoul, South Korea.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered related agencies to inspect the structural integrity of piers and pontoons where Loy Krathong events will be taking place, and to appropriately warn eventgoers about any potential risks. Event organizers should have in place staff members on-site to assist the general public and provide help in case of accidents.

Many provinces have banned the use of fireworks and firecrackers at Loy Krathong events this year for safety reasons.

The Prime Minister asked everyone to strictly comply with these regulations, which include the ban on sky lanterns, rockets, and fireworks in areas near airports.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said it will be deploying city hall staff at piers to ensure safety and assist the general public. For safety reasons, the maximum capacity of people on each pontoon will be limited to 1 person per 1 square meter.

The city will patrol the Chao Phraya River to ensure public safety throughout the festival. It encourages the general public to report cases of accidents or request emergency assistance by calling the 199 or 1555 hotlines, both available 24 hours a day.

Prayuth is overdoing his diligence to pretty trivial, one off issues, which are of small risk to public, to show his caring face, but it shows his militaristic and bureaucratic mindset. He still feels he rules country by decrees and daily command of current issues like on a battlefield. But it's not how country should be run by a competent prime minister. He doesn't see a bigger picture because he doesn't have time to think about it.
How officials can inspect and improve piers within just a few hours left to celebrations?

Public safety is very important and should be an ongoing improvement, that includes education. But scaring people with warning of stampede or pier collapsing is overkill.

Safe Loy Kratong with all music miss LOy Kratong elections, overcrowded markets etc but wearing a mask is keeps you safe, except you eat and drink without it in the over crowded places... Never had any incident as in Halloween inKorea before and this year it will not happen too and every year they don't want the laterns and fireworks.. so nothing news in fact.

But how about the people at the temples who are there the whole day already playing loud music and surely not drinking water or sodas... They will be on the road later.....Maybe a alcohol ban just as with other Buddhistic holidays would be better and safer
