บออันนี้

Featured Replies

Can I say บออันนี้ to mean "Can I have this one?" to mean something like a free take-away menu like you see at check out counter at thai restaurants (in the USA, not Thailand).

I would say บออันนี้ only if I could see the menu and hold it in my hand as a way of letting them know I wish to take it with me (anotherwords, I wouldn't be returning it).

I am looking for something popular and common to say so even if my tone is not correct, they will understand me (or at least increase my chances of being understood). Any suggestions are welcome.

I would like to know if I can apply this phrase to other small things, like "Can I have this one?", where I am talking about a pencil, or a book, or a pen, etc..

Should be ขออันนี้ (The first letter is ข, not บ)

I would add a 'หน่อย noi[L]' at the end to smooth out the phrase a little, otherwise it sounds too abrupt.

ขออันนี้หน่อยครับ

And the answer to your last question is yes, even though there are individual classifiers used for these things which would be better to use.

ขอบคุณครับ คุณmeadish

I meant to type ข instead of บ, that was a typo on my part.

How about ขออันนี้ได้ไหมครับ as an alternative to ขออันนี้หน่อยครับ

Yep - both are fine. The first one asks for permission, which is always nice.

Isn't this the second time the same OP has started a thread about how to ask if he can take a free menu (or after-dinner mint)? Hmm...

Thanks mangkorn and CSS. I did already ask that question in the past. I am sorry about that.

I might, if faced with this situation, say something along the following lines: ขอโทษนะครับ ผมไม่ทราบว่าเอาอันนี้กลับบ้านได้ไหมครับ

Or, perhaps somewhat less formal - if holding the menu in your hand, you might say เอาอันนี้ไปด้วยได้ไหมครับ
