Thaksin increases shares in Man City

London (dpa) - Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has increased his stake in English Premiership club Manchester City to 65.78 per cent after securing a further 9.88 per cent, believed to be from the broadcaster, Sky.

Thaksin, who earlier this month lodged an 81.6 million-pound (163-million-dollar) takeover bid for the club, through his company, UK Sports Investments, needs to own 75 per cent ownership mark in order to take the club off the stock exchange and become the owner.

The Manchester City board has backed his takeover bid.

However, some people are concerned at the morality of the deal, as Thaksin is facing corruption charges in Thailand.

Exploiting, exaggerating or making sensational:one dictionary defines 'yellow journalism' as such. The final sentence in the article above begs the question: WHO IS CONCERNED AT THE MORALITY OF THE DEAL? Certainly not England. On the contrary, those so suddenly concerned about this issue of "morality" more probably reside in BKK which is, as we all know, an aspiring Morality Center of the World, both socially and politically.

Personally,I am astounded that the investigative UK reporters have NOT fully researched the man,his tenure in office and his financial portfolio.

I am positive that the Manchester City board will rue the day that they went into bed with Mr Shinawatra.
