Police say they are gathering more evidence against a Chinese business man known as ‘Tuhao’ who's believed to be part of a Chinese crime syndicate with links to drugs. Further charges are likely to be brought following allegations brought by former politician Chuvit Kamonvisit, who claims police were not effectively investigating the case.


Police say more than 100 Chinese suspects remain in detention and are being investigated.

 

Thailand's state railways says it is seeking budget approval of 300 billion baht for the next phase of construction of the high speed railway, bidding is due to take place next year with construction due to begin in 2024.


When complete, the train journey time between Nong Khai and Bangkok is expected to be reduced from 10 hours to less than 3 and a half hours.

 

Police raided 13 premises suspected of running online gambling in Bangkok and Chiang Rai and impounded assets worth some 1 billion baht. 


The raids were launched to bring down a gambling website that had around 3 billion baht in circulation, 


2 arrests were made in Bangkok, 2.65 million baht cash, Land deeds,  several luxury cars and other items were impounded.


A further 3 arrests were made in Chiang Rai, 

 

A 78 year old British man and his Thai boyfriend were killed in a motor accident in north east Thailand yesterday, their car had been hit from behind at a junction and was pushed in front of a pickup truck. Mr Keith Miles was pronounced dead at the scene while Khun, Kandee died later at hospital.


Forbes magazine has named 85 year old Mr Joon Wanavit, founder of Hatari Electric, among Asia's 2022 Heroes of Philanthropy.


Mr Joon and his family donated 900 million baht US$24 million dollars  to the Ramathibodi Foundation’ which supports public health.


The current  list highlights the region’s top 15 philanthropists who have demonstrated a strong personal commitment to causes such as education and the environment.

Hong Kong announced that from today,  International passenger arrivals would no longer face COVID-19 movement controls or be barred from certain venues. It will also scrap a mandatory COVID-19 mobile application. However visitors will still have to take a pcr test upon arrival and wear facemasks.
