สวัสดีตอนเช้า sawatdee dtorn chao Good Morning (morning, specifically, hours between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.)

สวัสดีตอนบ่าย sawatdee dtorn baay Good Afternoon (afternoon hours between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.)

สวัสดีตอนเย็น sawatdee dtorn yen Good Evening (early evening hours between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.)

สวัสดีตอนทุ่ม sawatdee dtorn thoom Good Evening (evening hours between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.)

My apologies in advance, if this question is like a similar one. I am just trying to learn. Also, I have learned the thai alphabet from the start, so I am not skilled in transliteration. If my transliterations are wrong, I am sorry about that.

I am curious if สวัสดีตอนเย็น is still used. I realize it may not be common and that สวัสดี is suffice for greetings. I am just curious.

In addition, is there any such phrase as สวัสดีตอนทุ่ม. If so, where have you heard it? T.V. Show? Old thai movie?

Then there is always the ever popular and poetic:

อรุณสวัสดิ์ [N] Good morning. Sample:อรุณสวัสดิ์ผู้ฟังทุกท่านที่กำลังฟังรายการนี้อยู่

"Good morning to all of you listening to this [radio] program." [From Lexitron]

and

ราตรีสวัสดิ์ [N] Goodnight. Sample:เขากล่าวคำราตรีสวัสดิ์แล้วเดินจากไปอย่างไม่ไยดี "He said "good night" then walked out without paying any attention." [From Lexitron]

Nope, there's no such thing as สวัสดีตอนทุ่ม You might use สวัสดีตอนค่ำ... but it's very uncommon unless are you a DJ or sth...

And, let me say one thing on the subject of transliterations. First, no transliterations are "right", so you need not be concerned about getting it "wrong." Since many Thai sounds have no Western cognates, using roman letters to represent Thai sounds will always be somewhat erroneous. Second, the best transliterations are the ones you cannot type from a normal typewriter or computer. Third, if you want to transliterate, the Royal Institute has a Thai-based transliteration paradigm which is fairly standard. This method emphasizes sounds, not spelling. Finally, I want to commend you for studying Thai reading and writing. Forget about transliteration to roman characters; you will be better off using real Thai.
