Three smugglers were shot dead and a large amount of drugs were seized after a shootout on the Thai-Myanmar border in Chiang Rai on Tuesday night. The clash began when soldiers spotted a group of men carrying backpacks and asked to search them, but the men responded by opening fire and fled after a five-minute gunfight.

 

Yesterday, an army sergeant major surrendered to the police claiming he purchased 8 million records of Thai citizens' personal data from the dark web for just 8,000 baht instead of the 55 million records he initially claimed to have. 


Police doubted his claims, but found computers, routers and other related equipment in the soldiers apartment.


The Soldier also admitted to being absent without leave since April 3rd.

 

Thai authorities arrested five Chinese individuals, aged 29 to 41, for running an illegal online money lending service from a luxurious house in Pattaya. 


The Four men and one woman communicated with customers in Chinese using notebook computers. Police seized eight laptops, 12 mobile phones, 50 SIM cards, and a list of over 100 customers. The suspects, who had overstayed their visas, claimed they didn’t realize their activity was illegal. 


A new species of flowering plant, never before seen, has been discovered by a group of researchers at Chiang Mai University.

 

The plant was found among samples collected from the southern province of Narathiwat and has been named LA-Lisa after the Thai pop star La-lisa from Blackpink.

Myanmar's Military junta yesterday confirmed that it carried out Tuesday's air strike on a northwestern village in which killed over 100 people including around 30 children, drawing condemnation from the United Nations and Western powers.

 

Malaysia’s government yesterday released a report on a high-profile plane crash that killed several of the country’s  top leaders nearly 50 years ago, an air nomad airline crashed killing 11 people as it attempted to land in 1976. The report was made  public following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s pledge for greater transparency by his administration.
