Traces of cyanide have been found in the car of the suspect in a series of cyanide poisonings and traces of an antidote were found in a parcel addressed to her, according to Associate Professor Weerachai Phutdhawong, a lecturer at the Chemistry Department of Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science at Kasetsart University.

Crime Suppression Division officers sought help from Weerachai, an expert in chemical substances, by examining some of the evidence obtained in their investigation into the deaths of at least 13 people, thought to have been poisoned by a woman called Srarat, aka “Am”.

Weerachai said that he has checked items of evidence, collected from Srarat’s car, which were sent to him by the police, and found that evidence obtained from the right side of the front console of the car contains residual cyanide.

BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) – An expert believes the suspect in the cyanide poisoning cases is likely to have knowledge of chemistry after an antidote to cyanide poisoning was found in the parcel she had ordered.

The 36-year-old suspect Sararat “Am”, accused of thefts and premeditated murders possibly linked to more than 10 cyanide poisoning deaths may have good knowledge of chemistry, said Assoc. Prof. Weerachai Putthawong also known as Ajarn Aod who examines cyanide traces in evidence provided by the police in the cases and a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science, Kasetsart University.

Weerachai revealed the object in the parcel recently ordered by the suspect was found to be Sodium thiosulfate, a cyanide antidote.

Police in the western province of Ratchaburi are investigating a pharmacist who is the sister of a woman accused of poisoning at least 13 people with cyanide. Coconuts reports that Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn is accused of the poisonings, which date back to 2020 and in which 11 of the 13 victims died. She is being held at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution and has been denied bail as she is considered a flight risk.

The suspect, who is the former wife of a senior police officer, was arrested on Tuesday, with officers saying she was motivated by money when she allegedly carried out the poisonings. Most of the victims were women who had handed over large sums of money, according to police. Another victim was another ex-husband of Sararat’s. Autopsies showed traces of cyanide in the bodies of each victim.

Of the two people who survived attempts to poison them, one is understood to be the wife of another police officer. Reports say she began to feel nauseous after Sararat gave her medicine she said was to treat Covid-19. The other survivor lives in the north-eastern province of Khon Kaen.
