Sak Surin, the ailing Thai elephant in Sri Lanka, is now fit enough to be flown back to Thailand on July 1st as scheduled.

According to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Sak Surin’s health has improved substantially, it is in a good mood and appears to understand instructions given in Thai. The two abscesses on its back are healing after being treated by a team of Thai vets, flown to Sri Lanka to prepare it for repatriation.

The chartered flight from Sri Lanka to Chiang Mai will take about six hours on the evening of July 1st.

Says it all.

if he's flying Thai airways I guess they'll have to remove a couple of rows of seats so he'll have leg room.

Jumbo Jet maybe ?

In a jumbo jet I suppose ????

I do hope he got the proper "Fit to fly" certificate! That Covidiot PCR test musta hurt for the poor fella....what did they use, 3 broomsticks tied together with a loofa at the end?

I must say the above comments show certain mentalities on this forum. This is an old elephant that's been abused for most of it's life and is being repatriated at great expense and logistical difficulty (and a good look for Thailand) and will probably not last long. Elephants are magnificiant, intelligent mammals. Asians can be absolutely horrible when it comes to animals.
