Jai Dee Posted July 10, 2007 Share Posted July 10, 2007 Metropolitan Police tightens up security following possible insurgency schemes Metropolitan Police Commissioner Adisorn Nonsee has ordered for more police officers to be dispatched in Bangkok after the intelligence units have reported of potential unrest activities. Pol. Lt. Gen. Adisorn says the intelligence units have tipped off the authority about the southern insurgents' plan to instigate violence in the capital. Consequently, he has assigned the police officers to beef up the security measures in public and risky areas as well as residences of important figures, especially during nighttime. He says the police and army units have coordinated well to stabilize the situation. However, he says there have been no reports concerning the foreign workforces who may attempt to create social turbulence. Pol. Lt. Gen. Adisorn has reminded police officials in Bangkok metropolis and vicinity to monitor their respective areas more closely as many motorcycles and other properties have been stolen recently. He has told them to look for the motorcycles without license plates and to report them to the authority immediately. Likelyhood is, that this PR is being used to back up the Junta's hopes of implementing martial law and putting back the elections, so that Sonthi has more time to manouvere himself into a more acceptable position to become the next PM. By the way, in all seriousness, I am still wondering if anyone knows what they mean by foreign workforce. I know we are all bad farangs etc., but do they have any reason to believe that there are real foreigners involved or foreigners linked to some international terrorist organization? george Posted July 11, 2007 Share Posted July 11, 2007 Bangkok police alert for possible unrest BANGKOK: -- Bangkok police are increasing patrols in the capital's business districts, diplomatic offices and shopping centres here on a 24-hour basis after receiving reports that southern insurgents may create unrest in the Thai capital. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol. Lt-Gen. Adisorn Nonsee said warnings were given by government security units, the First Army Region, responsible for security in Bangkok and the Central provinces, and the Special Branch Police that southern insurgents may exploit anti-CNS and anti-government demonstrations. According to Gen. The First Army Comand has warned Bangkok Governor of possible chaos created by the southern insurgents. According to Mr. Apirak, he says the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has already prepared security measures to deal with possible turbulence. People have been requested to provide any information connected to terrorism to state authorities. Following intense police interrogations, authorities decided he did not pose a security threat and allowed him to board his flight on July 2.
