Sorry folks, I did pose this question before, but things have changed, ie bio-metric PPs,

Just to clarfiy things,im a uk citizen living in Thailand on a non-imm o visa {retired}

My gf and daughter have bio-metric pps, do they still need to go to BK UK embassy?

My PP is UK and was issued in May 2003,do i need to go to Embassy to get bio PP to go home for holiday?

My gf has a beauty salon buisness with 5 staff, she owns the salon and has papers for this, also large farm selling produce, has papers for farm also.

Daughter is 16 and enrolled at college.

One thing i forgot to mention before that gf was refused a VV last year on the grounds that she originally planned to stay for 2 months and stayed 5.5, she wanted to come back for 2 weeks to help me with house sale and clearance. That was Oct 2006, I have been here since Oct 20 2006 and never left Thailand.

The purpose of our visit is a 3 week holiday is to visit friends and family, also i have to apply for a new 1yr non-imm o visa in early October, should i get multiple entry type? with this would i still have to inform Thai imm of me coming and going?

Thanks in advance for your help with this query.

The new passports do not change anything regarding the application, however the visa system is now biometric, i.e when there application is made at the UK visa application center (not the embassy) then they will take finger prints again and a digital photo graph of the applicant.

As Mark says, your wife and daughter will have to go to the UKVAC in Bangkok to apply for the visa as the biometrics are now put on the visa, you (Lickey)do not have to change your passport or go to the Embassy to enable you to go to UK. Their passports can be returned to their address by courier or EMS if they cannot collect them personally.

As you must know, both your g/f and her daughter will have to give a reason to return to Thailand. It would seem your g/f has a business, her daughter may have a college course to attend and the fact that you are based in Thailand together with proof of your relationship to her should satisfy that. However as she could previously remain away from the business for 5 months and wanted more last time the embassy may question her intention this time and even penalise her again for not sticking to her word on the previous application. They should make a joint application and you sponsor them with one sponsorship package.

Are you on a multiple non-imm O doing visa runs every 90days or have you a 1 year extention based on retirement. If it is the former and you intend to continue to do visa runs you should get a new visa. You do not need to inform Thai immigration that you are leaving.

If you are on a retirement extention it would be best if you either extended it before you left or arrived back in time to extend it. Remember if you are on a 1 year extention you must apply for a re-entry permit at immigration in Thailand before you leave otherwise you will not be able to return on the same visa.

Thanks for your replies gentlemen,

Yes,im on a retirement extension 1 year visa due for renewal 2nd October, and have a note in PP saying that Before leaving Thailand, application for re-entry permit must be submitted. Failure to do so will lose your right automatically.

So should i get this done when i apply for my next years extension on the 2nd October?

Perhaps if i applied for a multiple entry Visa, I would not need to do this?

Also, in view of the refusal last year for my gf, do you think it would be better for me to go along to Embassy as well,in a supporting role so to speak, Does the embassy need addresses where we will be staying in UK and my bank statments ect, and would it be wise to book plane tickets before going to embassy?

Thanks for your help, lickey.

It would be better, if you wanted to stay on 1 year extentions for you to renew either before you go or to return in time to renew. It is simple to get a re-entry permit from your nearest immigration office (costs about B1000). Yes you can get it on your next visit and at the same time as you apply for the extention if you do it before you leave for holiday.

If you didn't get a re-entry permit before leaving you would not be allowed to re-enter on the exisiting visa so you would have to get a new visa in the UK and then either re-apply for a 1 year extention on that visa or continue to do visa runs every 90 days for 12 months once you return.

The extention is by far the cheaper option as a multi entry non Imm O visa costs £100.

There is lots of discussion on Thai visas and retirement in the Visas for Thailand forum.

If you go to Bangkok with your family to apply for the visas, all you will be able to do is carry the papers, you will not be allowed in and should they be called for an interview you will not be allowed to attend with them.

See Checklist for visitors visa for supporting documents required but yes they will need to show there is suitable accomodation for them in the UK and they have sufficient funds for the trip. You, as their sponsor can provide all that if you wish but they must also show their reasons to return to Thailand. There is no need to book plane tickets before you get the result of the visa application, in fact the embassy advises that you dont.
