Ron DeSantis suggests he would pardon Trump on any federal charges

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gave his strongest suggestion yet, in an interview that aired on Friday, that he would consider pardoning former President Donald Trump if elected to the White House next year.

In the interview on The Megyn Kelly Show, DeSantis was asked by the host if he would commit to pardoning Trump on any federal charges.

"Well, what I've said is very simple. I'm going to do what's right for the country. I don't think it would be good for the country to have an almost 80-year-old former president go to prison," DeSantis said.

Pressed on whether that means he would pardon Trump, Desantis continued: "It doesn't seem like it would be a good thing. And I look at like, you know, Ford pardoned Nixon, took some heat for it, but at the end of the day, it's like, do we want to move forward as a country? Or do we want to be mired in these past controversies?"

In May, shortly after he officially entered the presidential race, DeSantis said he would consider pardoning people involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection, if elected, including Trump.

Well no one will have to be concerned with him pardoning Trump from Tallahassee Wishful imbecile. ????

The US always does.  Look at Nixon and Kissinger, two of the biggest mass murders in history, pardoned.  George Bush juniour and his cronies the same, got away with mass murder and theft of oil supplies.  All criminals from way back.

Does the fact that he would pardon him mean that he thinks Trump is guilty?!  Tell me it's not so!

Only if Trump begs pardon on his knees! ????

I think that's exactly what the country needs.

Nixon was pardoned by Ford. I don't know of that international war criminal Kissinger being charged, let alone convicted, of any crimes.

Look at all the traitors (Flynn), grifters (Bannon) and assorted other criminals Trump pardoned and I know of no outcry from the party of "law and order" as Republicans used to be known

Hasn't that weasel forgotten one tiny detail? He has to become president first.

I dont know which of these two dog and pony shows give me more amusement. The Thai election debacle or the Trump/Biden comedy act. ????

Ronny, it might be an idea to wait and see what the federal charges are before deciding on behalf of America what is pardonable.

But of course he would, lol

OMfreakingG! This will really get in the crawl of the Trump haters????????????

It’s the constituent emotional turmoil that each opposition has about the comedy act that is so amusing ????????????

Watch this space with Hunter and Daddy Joe at the end of his tenancy ! He's going to be signing FBI and DOJ pardons 24/7 in his last week of office if Trump (or any Rep candidate for P) is near to any sort of victory

How about respecting the courts and whatever they will rule with regards to Trump?

It's called the rule of law, and THAT is what's best for the country.

I do take note that he seems convinced that Trump will be found guilty. And so am I. Where I disagree is that I think he should go to prison if he's being sentenced to a prison term.

What motivates him to endlessly debase himself? Trump's voters wouldn't spit on him.

DeSantis is like a guy who pays for a third water buffalo.

He just might if he outright declares now that he will pardon Trump if elected and Trump stands down now and endorses Ron so as to get a pardon!

DeSantis is hoping Trump's legal problems will force him out of the race and Trump's base will vote for the man promising a pardon.

In other words, Ron's desperate.

I doubt Trump would pardon a competitor for the presidency.

If Trump is convicted, he should do the time.

Personally I don’t find it amusing in the slightest not one tiny bit it is deadly serious make no mistake about that.on one hand you have an evil obviously corrupt criminal who btw enabled Putin mismanaged Covid and consciously made decisions that made it worse for his personal benefit systematically tryed to destroy the institutions that keep this country going sir that’s just for starters.then you have Biden doing good things for our alliances putting the country back on track as they attack his only surviving son.please excuse me if I don’t find that amusing (please don’t take my reaction personally it’s not meant to be)Of course bobble head Ron would offer a pardon he’s pandering for votes he isent going to be president ever he’s on the wane just his comments on slavery should be enough to do him in not to mention abortion conceal carry he’s burnt toast

It appears you are suggesting that Biden would pardon his son in the future (we will have to wait and see), whereas Trump has already pardoned the father of his son-in-law.  So you are hoping that Biden will be as bad as Trump in this regard?
