The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts (MCFA) is requesting that precious artefacts of Khmer origin be returned from Thailand and China. The culture ministry is making every effort to rediscover and preserve Cambodian artefacts that disappeared during the civil war period.

Minister of Culture Phoeurng Sackona said that government is pointing to the example set by the United States and the Latchford family, and Cambodia is requesting the return of artefacts from its neighbours and other nations.

However, she said that the request for the repatriation of antiquities from Thailand and China has not shown any results yet. Despite the slow progress, the MCFA plans to open more channels with both Thailand and China. She added that in August, the Ministry of Culture signed a cultural legacy agreement with the United States to curb the illegal trade in antiquities and cultural property.
