That is going to need a fair number of solar panels, plenty of space available mind 🙂

EDIT If I've done my sums right and got the decimals in the right place it's only about 300,000 panels.

Another glaring example of the war on Global Warming  / Climate change is a big pile of horse manure.

Yeah, that really is an astonishing waste of energy, not sure how much of Vegas' electricity is from renewables / nuclear.

From Bard:-

Quote

Renewables

  • Solar: 15.9%
  • Geothermal: 9.4%
  • Hydroelectric: 4.7%
  • Wind: 0.8%

Nuclear

  • 0%

Fossil

  • Natural Gas: 62.5%
  • Coal: 6.6%

Total

  • Renewables: 30.8%
  • Nuclear: 0%
  • Fossil: 69.2%

As you can see, the majority of Las Vegas' electricity comes from fossil fuels, primarily natural gas. However, the state is making progress in transitioning to renewable energy, with solar and geothermal playing an increasingly important role.

Nevada has a goal of achieving 50% renewable energy by 2030, and Las Vegas is at the forefront of this effort. The city is home to several large-scale solar projects, including the Nellis Solar Array and Boulder Solar 1. Las Vegas also has a number of geothermal power plants, including the Stillwater Geothermal Power Plant and the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project.

In addition to these large-scale projects, Las Vegas is also encouraging homeowners and businesses to install solar panels and other renewable energy technologies. The city offers a number of financial incentives to make it easier for people to go solar, and a growing number of Las Vegas residents are taking advantage of these programs.

As Las Vegas continues to transition to renewable energy, it can expect to see a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. This will make Las Vegas a more sustainable and livable city for everyone.

I'm not sure I can spot Vegas in this photo (and it's from 2013)

Las Vegas at night as taken by Colonel Chris Hadfield from the International Space Station 250 miles above the surface of the Earth in orbit

That is probably just the heat signature from the structure in the OP 😀

The USA with China are amongst the biggest wasters of natural (and unnatural) ressources of the planet.

On the other hand nuclear power needs to stop being targetted by the green environmental terrorists (mainly in Europe).

The fusion technology (currently it is fission tech used)  that is safer, cleaner and more efficient,  need to pursue research and developpment for the energy supplies of tomorrow.

Getting independant from oil is fine. Great for the ego to have that latest EV SUV in the front porch. But if there are no alternatives to respond to the electric demand, it's plainly going to end up in a junk yard in 30 years and generate more waste.

Beginning to understand Global Warming deniers. The Sphere was completed in 2023. The photo shown is clearly marked at 2013. You do the math. 🤣

Err.

Isn't the main power used at night?

So now tell us how many batteries are used for night time running.

The Global Warming deniers were the ones who had had to change script to Climate change.

6 documented Glacial and Inter-Glacial periods are testement to the fact that the Earths climate does indeed change. Not for the reasons that the tax them to the hilt and invent stuff lunatics claim.
