November 2, 20232 yr If one is not certain to move to Thailand permanently, but will trial it out, say staying for a few months at a time on a non-Imm 'O' for retirement, could they still utilise travel insurance from their home country (UK), even though they are not on tourist visas but on 'non-imm O' visas. I don't see how the insurance companies would know what type of visa the person is on, but would only look at length of stay away from home. ? Is my thinking correct? Thanks
November 2, 20232 yr Yes as long as you've been in UK for previous 180 days, that's usually in the policy doc. When I came I bought 18 months travel insurance
November 2, 20232 yr MOST travel insurance policies only cover for a maximum of 30 or 60 days in any one country. Would they know? Yes, by simply looking at your passport in the case of a claim.

If I was in UK for 180 days previous, and bought the policy there, would it cover for 18 months in Thailand? Edited November 2, 20232 yr by KannikaP

Come on make an effort I'm not doing it for you, sometimes they call it backpackers (up to 18 months) see moneysupermarket below as an example, maybe age limit of 45 but try single trip option also for 12 months Edited November 2, 20232 yr by scubascuba3

Have tried many times trying to bypass 'proper' insurance. Note Annual Multi-Trip several within 12 months. Read the small print. That's where some of these kids who have accidents go wrong thinking that their Travel Insurance will cover them It will not. Edited November 2, 20232 yr by KannikaP

Annual multi trip can also work, they vary maximum duration in one go, 30, 45 days not sure about 60 or 90, I haven't looked at it for several years

'big cat insurance ' do policies for up to 2 years for ages up to 69/70 i believe, can also be taken out while in Thailand ie not in UK and i believe no time having to be spent in the UK Edited November 2, 20232 yr by steve187
