10,000-Baht Digital Wallet Not For Purchase Of Services

PEOPLE WILL NOT LIKELY be allowed to use the Pheu Thai-led government’s digital wallet to buy services anywhere, a government official said today (Nov.9).

The eligible recipients will only be allowed to use their 10,000-baht digital wallet to buy goods but not any services under the populist handout campaign, according to the official who only spoke on condition of anonymity.

Those services impermissible for use with the 10,000-baht digital wallet include beauty salons, barber shops, massage and spa parlours, repair shops and car wash, among others. The digital wallet will not be provided for purchase of such goods as alcoholic beverages and cigarettes, either.

Allowing purchase of services would benefit the economy far more than purchasing goods. Any money spent on on local services would cycle through the community rather than simply fall into the hands of the big, dominant retailers. Or maybe that's the plan...

imagine that-they realised they might be encouraging an economy they say doesnt exist in thailand

--> prostitution

So no using the money to pay off bank loans reducing debt?

On basis stores such as Thai Watsadu, Global House etc will be in on this scheme I'm buying out the two daughters, free them up to spend wherever they choose.

Nothing new here.

With the 50/50 scheme only certain type of retailer was allowed to partcipate, mainly the smaller ones and alcohol/tobacco were ruled out.

They are slowly walking it back and watering it down. By the look from the above, when they are done moving the goal posts, folks will have the options of spending it in 7-11/Big C/Blue Flag shops as they are way cheaper than the Mom & Pop shops... and all the wrong entities to be profiting from this hand out. They might even restrict it to just the government Blue Flag shops so they get as much back as possible... wouldn't surprise me at all if they announce that in the next few weeks. Compete bunch of liars and rotten to the core.

Originally in the WTT scheme, although it wasn't allowed, you could pass your allowance to other people, then they brought in facial recognition.

The devil is always in the detail.

I am guessing the CP Group must be elated, or maybe behind the whole scheme in the first place. Anyone check the new PM and his fellow MP's financial records and recent stock purchases yet?

I just felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices strumpets suddenly cried out in anger and were suddenly silenced.

Helicopter money.

The economy must be f$cked and they don't have a clue how to sort it out.

So free money to buy time.

My god... When it's gonna crash, it's gonna crash good !

That's no problem, one can accompany me to the store, push the trolley and then pay for her 10k of home products.

You can always dream.

The only way to stop it being spent on cigarettes or alcohol is to make it ineligible in any store where such items are sold. Otherwise there's gonna be lots of stress on the cashiers in 7/11 etc.

I hope Apple of stocked up on iPhones.

Your local CP outlet is the place you must go.

How stupid is that ,It doesn't matter where the money is spent it will be far better spread on all retailers  and benefit everyone ,not just the selected ones the Govment picks for you.

It's also a sceam to stop village people from using their local shops.

It's all fungible anyway. It's like national lotteries that claim that the money goes toward education. Sure, but then there's less money allocated from the general fund, so in practical terms it all goes into the same bucket.

it will not happen - the people needed to vote for a party with integrity........oh wait - they did
