Malaysia has surpassed China to become the biggest feeder market for Thailand tourism in 2023 with 4.56 million arrivals.

Chinese tourists came in second with 3.51 million, followed by South Koreans (1.65 million), Indians (1.62 million), and Russians (1.48 million), according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Travel between Malaysia and Thailand, two ASEAN members, is faciliated by visa exemption.

Before the pandemic, Chinese tourists were the biggest market of Thailand's tourism industry. In 2019, over 11 million Chinese tourists visited Thailand, accounting for more than a quarter of its total foreign arrivals.

Gotta wonder how many of those Malaysians walked across the border, did a little shopping and walked back, same day.  And did that 52 times, once a week...

Not so much tourist money in that.

They are all Muslims so everything in Thailand is forbidden to them.  I guess they have a halal water drinking party.

I am not at all surprised (for reference):

China’s businesses are struggling and job seekers have trouble finding work, President Xi Jinping acknowledged during his Sunday New Year’s Eve speech......... which is grappling with a structural slowdown marked by weak demand, rising unemployment and battered business confidence.........“Some enterprises had a tough time. Some people had difficulty finding jobs and meeting basic needs.”

Not sure they need to go to Thailand for a quickie. However, it may be an opportunity to drink alcohol.

Them Malaysian go as far as Hat Yai then back

If GeoPoliticial people are right China will cease to exist as a functioning Nation in 10 years. Then decline from there. Definitely not a power to be worried about.

Of course Thailand will still be dragged down with them to some degree, again if the GeoPolitical people are right.

All I do know is I pulled out of the Chinese market, and will never return to that cluster F&ck. Even it they came back to rule the world I would never put a dime back in that total mess.

Exactly.

This unseemly and creepy pushed consciousness of everything Chinese tourism related - all of which is conceived for your convenience.

Who gives a rat's backside.
