PRIME MINISTER SRETTHA Thavisin would ultimately choose to dissolve the House of Representatives and call a general election rather than resign if the Pheu Thai digital wallet campaign was eventually rejected at parliament, according to a partisan source.

 

Srettha has earlier confided to some of his personal associates that he would rather choose to dissolve the House instead of stepping down in face of possibility a legislation to find a sum of 500 billion baht in loan to finance the Pheu Thai populist handout campaign was eventually rejected by a majority of lawmakers, said the partisan source who only spoke on condition of anonymity.

 

Given the purported magnitude of the populist project pledged by the core coalition partner to the people nationwide during last year’s electoral campaign, the planned legislation is ultimately supposed to sail through both the executive and legislative branches otherwise the Pheu Thai-backed prime minister would merely opt out by dissolving the House so that a nationwide election may be held in 60 days.

 

Instead of resigning in the face of a possible fiasco over the contentious populist handout campaign, Srettha would rather return the power to the people, thus putting an end to the current Pheu Thai-led coalition government after less than a year in power following last year’s election.

 Indeed...however the thought of possibly losing their place at the trough could have a very sobering effect for some parliamentarians...added to which is the specter of MFP potentially gaining an even bigger slice of the popular vote.  A very shrewd move by the PM to get the backing he needs tbh.  Do any of us think for one minute that MPs put the best interests of the country above their own self-interest ...come on honestly?

if he dissolves it will be suicide for puke thai. i hope he does it. tax-sin might have something to say about it though.

He is stuggling to prevent a U turn and losing face. He would rather see the country bankrupt than admit the 10'000 baht handout is unworkable. 

Sensible thing would be a sensible compromise.

 

Noting that the point of the proposed handout was to buck up the economy (through consumerism rather than intelligent investment), the obvious compromise would be to confine the handout to the 50% poorest people (ie those with little or no visible means of support).

 

My family would be beside themselves with joy. So much better than silly Falang brother-in-law, dribbling it out.

 

All gone in 2 weeks.

If he did that the rush would be on to dissolve MFP first.

The problem is that the Senate wants the government to address why the digital wallet scheme would not break the law  (vote buying ) and "whether there existed an economic crisis to warrant the 500 billion baht borrowing needed to fund the scheme. Feb. 16, 2024 https://www.nationthailand.com

Dissolving the House and holding a new election won't resolve the Senate issues. However, the Senate might overlook its issues with the right PM candidate. 

What is Gen. Prawit's position?

Does it really matter? We all know who won the last election yet look at who is the sitting PM. Of course he would dissolve the house and have another election.. The real question is will he step down as PM. This has been a problem in the past with others. Then there is the real possibility that they hold a new election and Pita is not permitted to run for office for some scandal or another as a ruse like the last time. Then of course. Everyone knows that even with another election and the PM stepping down.. The peoples vote means nothing as proven in the past election as well. This PM would remain or another Thaksin lackey would be voted in the end.
