Obtaining and Importing Thai Baht from Cambodia or Malaysia

Recommended Posts

Two questions about obtaining Thai Baht outside of Thailand and importing them into Thailand.

Information I found online stated that the maximum amount allowed to be imported into Thailand without prior declaration is $20,000 equivalent.  The same webpage also stated that the customs form available at the border set the limit at $15,000 equivalent.  I've been unable to find a copy of the customs form online.  Does anyone know the true, enforced limit?  Has anyone seen a current form?

Has a "best practices" method of purchasing Thai Baht in Cambodia or Malaysia been determined?  By "best practices" I mean lowest fees, lowest bureaucracy, greatest ease.  Somewhere I read that obtaining Thai Baht in the Cambodian casinos on the Thai border was an option.  Anyone tried that?  Is there any bank in Cambodia or Malaysia (preferably near the border) with a reputation for facilitating the purchase of Thai Baht (plenty of Thai Baht on hand, short waiting times to complete the process, etc).

Just to be clear...  THIS IS NOT A THREAD ABOUT TAXES.  PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC.  If you want to talk about taxes, please go to Mike Lister's informative thread.

So this is not about taxes ?

Especially when I read your other tax thread?

You worried when the IO looked too long at your passport...

Someone in another tax thread found it hilarious how people discuss their more or less illegal plans on the internet. I agree.

BTW Mike's answer is not quite correct,  but I am not giving you the correct answer.

You bothered to post a comment because you thought I would be disappointed by your lack of approval?

Do you always assume that of strangers on the internet?  You need your head examined.

The constant discussion all over the tax threads over creative ideas about taxes (not only about tax evasion like in your case, but also about the opposite, creative ideas which actions could be seen as taxable) will not do us any good.

We don't have to do the RD's job.

Just one question; why? Why not bring in US Dollars, Euros, British Pounds or any other easily changeable currency?

I don't see the point, you still need to send money initially to cambodia in that case too. So then you might as well use a foreign card to withdraw cash here, or simply change crypto for money, if you look around there is plenty options for that too. If that is off-topic for you, it's basically the same in Cambodia as it is here, except you then bring it here.

Yeah sure in that case there is not even a ATM withdrawal inside Thailand but that changes little if it comes to taxes and in the case they would actively start enforcing it. As in that case they would still look at your lifestyle and what that would cost. So that part will be taxable regardless, then the rest could still be what i said at first.

Not really see another reason for why one would need to go abroad for this, if it is that bad, you should not even do it within any of these countries.

What are the limits? According to Thailand's official rules, you can bring up to $20,000 USD or the currency equivalent into the country before you have to declare it to customs. If you're bringing Thai baht (THB) into the country rather than a foreign currency, the most you can carry with you is 500,000 THB.Apr 18, 2567 BE

The OP wants to buy THB in neighbouring countries and bring it into Thailand, a point I overlooked earlier. There is no acceptable reason why a person would want to do that, other than to avoid buying THB in Thailand in order to avoid tax assessable income being detected.  On the basis the op is trying to discuss illegal activities, this thread is closed. Any further posts along the same lines will be cause for a an Admin review.
