Hi,

thought of posting in the Bkk forum, but maybe I am having a language problem. I often see those big green signs along major road declaring I am about to enter a 'Khet Kuab Khoum Agad'. Well, after entering, the air does not seem so different from what it was 5 m back.

Questions: What is actually DONE (I don't count the application of big green signs) to kuabkhoum the agad? And how are the boundaries of such areas defined?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

My understanding of the sign เขตควบคุมอากาษ (if it's the one you mean) is that it is an area where polution is controlled. No big factories pouring out fumes but I could be wrong

Yes, it's that sign. No factories pouring out fumes? Well, mostly thoses signs are in front of big crossroads (Sathorn - Lumpini, Rajada - Houay Kuang...). It's a bit ironic to see such a sign up there. There is no space for factories anyway and the fumes from cars are virtually breath-taking. So what purpose do those signs have? I had thought it's to do with no trucks allowed or no older cars allowed or whatever to keep the fumes down. Does not seem to be the case...

Quick note--the proper spelling is อากาศ.

And this is just a guess, but perhaps they figure the smoke they're blowing up residents behinds with these signs will clear out the pollution. :o
